Any one who knows me knows that I really enjoy fun, stylish & unique shoes!! The right shoe can turn any average outfit into something spectacular! Well, maybe not ones that look like horse hooves, but you get the idea. Many times I have been heard saying, “No matter how fat you get, you can always find cute shoes that fit!” But I have noticed lately as I have been shedding my holiday pounds that my shoes are slipping off my feet!
Whaaaat!!!???? Oh no!!!
Could my feet really be slimming down that much? What did I eat over the holidays that could have caused my feet to be puffy? I used to be able to eat anything and maintain my petite little 5’2, 105 lb. figure. Mother Nature is a woman, why must she be so unfair to the rest of us women and make it so hard to stay slim as we get older??? Baby fat is only cute on babies, like my precious granddaughter!! I have never heard anyone say that “old people fat” is cute. There are no endearing terms such as “old people chub”, “ageing pudge”, “twilight tubby”. It’s just not cute!!
So, here I am…another woman talking about the challenge to lose weight. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I am as big around as I am tall, or that I eat like a horse. I only have about 15 -20 lbs that I would love to keep off. But it’s still something that is always on my mind…and hips! Haha!!
In my quest I’ve discovered a couple of things that seem to work for me. This is not a paid advertisement. I’m not trying to sell you anything. I’m just sharing my experience.
Shakeology was appealing because it was quick and easy to fix, and it’s also easy to carry in a sports bottle while I’m on the go. It’s not your typical weight loss shake. It’s designed to feed your body at the biological and molecular level. It has lower sugars content than a lot of other protein powders, as well as lower calories, and it doesn’t sacrifice taste for performance. I also love it because I can use it in a variety of ways, including to make my own protein bars, or mixed with oatmeal as a protein boost. Here’s one recipe:
No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls
You will need:
6 TBSP PB2 (defatted powdered peanut butter — available on Amazon)
2 TBSP natural peanut butter
2 scoops Chocolate protein powder
2–3 TBSP raw/organic honey or agave nectar (depending on how you like the consistency)
½ cup old fashioned oats
Instructions:
1. Prepare PB2 as instructed on label (mix with water until it has a peanut butter-like consistency.)
2. Add PB2 mixture with the other ingredients in a bowl and mix well. (If it’s too sticky, add more protein powder until it’s a dry, crumbly texture.)
3. Roll the mixture into golf-ball sized individual balls and place on wax paper. You should be able to make 10–12 balls. Put into freezer until firm. (5–10 minutes will work!)
The other thing that I have discovered is Physique 57 workout. It’s a DVD workout based on the New York exercise studio. It combines isometric exercises and orthopedic stretches to lengthen and sculpt your muscles and create a lean body. I love that throughout the workout, just when you think you can’t go any more, it switches things up.
Do I expect that I will look like Kelly Ripa, not exactly. But I do hope to be able to maintain a fitter version of my mid 40 year old self. We’ll see…I’ll keep you up to date on my progress.
I’d love to hear what has worked for you and how you have managed to maintain a fit and healthy body & life. Please share below.
